First of all, we aren’t posting this to do ourselves out of business but to ultimately help anyone who may be a new business owner considering SEO. You may be in the process of making a website or you have recently created one and you don’t know to invest in SEO or not. Why should a new business invest in SEO? Well, firstly we recommend the business to only invest in SEO if they are past the ‘trial’ stage of the business. SEO is a commitment regardless if you are doing the SEO yourself or hiring an agency to do it.

SEO is important for the long term but may not need to be a priority.

SEO campaigns can cost anything from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars depending on the competition in your industry. You also need to weigh up your competitive advantage with your existing methods of getting customers.

If you have started a business and you are able to have a decent number of contacts who may be interested in your service we would highly recommend you stick at your business for a few months. The reason why we recommend not investing in SEO during the first few months is the fact your business idea may ‘realistically’ won’t survive after a year regardless of your search engine ranking.

Understanding people burn out, give up on their ideas and factors outside of their control may just mean they can’t continue. So it makes sense not to invest in SEO too early, it’s like buying a house and going through the process of deciding if this is the right step for you financially.

If you have been operating for a few months and you have generated sustainable income and you are looking for ways to generate more leads it’s time to consider SEO.

Start first with local SEO

As we would discuss and inform you when you sign up to our SEO packages it’s best to start with specific keywords that match the area your service is servicing or present in. A clear example would be a local Adelaide plumber located in Brighton who has a service range of 10km. You wouldn’t want to be ranked #1 under the keyword ‘Plumbers Adelaide’ if you only service a small part of Adelaide metro.

You might be thinking “Hey, I would want to rank #1 regardless” especially since it’s a key term that most people would use. However, part of ranking on Google is relevance and how many people exit your site after visiting. In fact, this is just 2 of the dozens of metrics that search engines use to gauge your website.

Good content and relevant content is key

Using the previous example of our plumber wanting to rank on Google. They are more likely to rank higher if they are optimising their keywords under ‘Plumbers Brighton’ and similarly for nearby suburbs. As Google will learn where to show your listing to and which locale. You can also give Google this information by registering your business on Google.

SEO or otherwise known as search engine optimisation is the term used for the process of ‘optimising’ your website content to make it easier for search engines to read and decide what content is more important than others on your website and comparing that with the rest of the websites on the internet.

Now understanding the importance of SEO for any website lets reverse engineer that information into basic principles of how you can improve your SEO.

How often you update your website will determine how often your website gets crawled. Posting new content on your site makes your website treated as an information site rather than a static business page that changes once in a blue moon.

Build content. Sounds simple enough but you need to put in the work to build content. It is much more difficult to rank a one-page website with very little content. Not impossible, but much more difficult.

Optimise your website tags. By creating meta tags descriptions and applying ‘Alt’ tags to your images you’re making it easier for search engines to search.

If you make your website as easy to access for search engines as possible they will give weight to your website. So it makes sense to make sure you have a sitemap.xml that has been submitted to search engines to help them.

Provide value to the person reading your content. Imagine you are someone who just had a tap explode and need a plumber’s assistance. You would typically Google your nearest plumber and you may click on a few pages to decide on one to call. All of the websites are very similar but you noticed one that had a detailed guide linked on the home page detailing how to turn off the water or tap manually and tips on preventing plumbing flooding in your home that may cause more damage. By providing tips to someone who may be having a crisis you will probably find you will be trusted, respected and have happier clients who are willing to come back to you.

Engage with your audience on social media. If you don’t have a social media page you will need to be on the well-known platforms. As much as we may not like it, not being with the times in the digital world you will struggle to keep up.

If you want to save some money on your SEO campaign, in this article we discuss how to choose SEO keywords that you want us to help you rank for. It might sound like we are lazy and trying to get out of doing work. We provide SEO services to our clients that we passionately become emotionally invested in their success, but we also want to educate businesses. Most SEO companies, in general, will provide keyword research as part of the overall service fee. Keyword research is one of the hardest parts of SEO because it is very time consuming, and therefore, you will be paying for a professional to research keywords for you. Keyword research is vital for an SEO campaign to be successful.

But keyword research is best done by the client

When you think about it, the best person who understands their own business more than anyone are the people who run the business. When you hire someone externally to do marketing, you have to brief them on your business, the business’s vision for the future and you spend a lot of time back and forth. However, when people hire web designers and SEO specialists to do our websites, they don’t typically communicate well, and the client forms false beliefs about the reality of SEO campaigns. And to mention the SEO specialist would not understand the business well enough after a first consultation to know how to choose SEO keywords for your campaign.

Basic Keyword Finding 101

Go to Google.com and type in the keywords you want your customers to find you under

Copy and paste each keyword to a text file or spreadsheet (just a way to save the list)

Find businesses similar to yours and copy the URL’s to the text file

List your services and products you provide

You can also apply the basic search method to FaceBook search, Google Map suggestions, YouTube and other search engines. They will suggest commonly searched terms which will give you an idea of what keywords to target.

The bottom line: If you can give us as much detail about your products and services and how you want to be found. We can learn so much about what your campaign needs, how much work is involved and from that a unique strategy can be created. We will then generate more keywords that we would recommend, and then we would lay out a timeframe of how long those keywords will take to rank and optimise the pricing to be flexible.

TIP: Don’t pay for expensive keyword finder tools

You don’t need to pay for expensive keyword research tools because there is always conflicting data with what they suggest is the search volume for that particular keyword but actually, don’t reflect traffic results at all. We aren’t saying you don’t consider buying them at all but if you want to get started in SEO and find good keywords you don’t need to invest any money into getting started.

Doing your own keyword research can save your SEO specialist time, therefore, less money you need to spend

When you consult with us in regards to our SEO services, and you already have a beautiful list of keywords you want to focus on for your SEO campaign. We will not only be able to get started sooner on ranking your website, but we won’t charge you for keyword research but instead reinvest the hours saved into improving and tweaking SEO further. In other words, if you are happy to do a little homework before you consult with us, you will save money and our time. We want to maximise our time efficiently so we can focus on creating content that ranks highly on search results.

Most SEO agencies won’t tell you this, but some keywords are easier to rank than others

Some keywords such as ‘Adelaide plumbers’ might be trickier to rank as there is higher competition to be ranked for Adelaide. But using a keyword such as “Adelaide western suburbs plumber” might only require small SEO tweaks and on-page optimisation. This is a reason why we care so much about the dialogue between the client and us when we provide SEO services. We want to understand your business and how it operates so we can create creative content for your websites that get ranked.

When you signup with WebJex for an SEO package and you fill out our discovery form successfully you will have saved us from having to do hours of guessing work and allows us to get started sooner.

A SSL certificate helps your website be secure from prying eyes from seeing your personal data between your computer and the website you are visiting. In this post, we will discuss how in these six points.

SSL certificates work to keep your connection secure

SSL certificates encrypt your web traffic between you and the server. This is done through the SSL protocol https:// which uses port 443 on your device to establish that secure connection.

SSL certificates increase your user’s confidence with your brand

Another reason why you need an SSL certificate is trusted websites have the reputation of using SSL on their websites and it really does lift the trust between the site and the user. It could be said that visiting a website with SSL does create a kind of virtual handshake between a website and a user.

SSL certificates make your website faster

SSL because of its technical aspects make loading pages slightly faster because it splits the traffic between two protocols and is a more constant direct user to server connection than the normal HTTP:// requests over port 80. It is just that SSL is a more efficient technology than HTTP.

SSL certificates stop prying eyes

Keeping your connection from prying eyes is reduced greatly by using websites that use https:// enabled on their site. This prevents from typical spying and having what you do on these websites monitored by hackers.

SSL certificates are cheap

SSL Certificates are cheap and are sometimes free. There are benefits to paying extra for an SSL certificate.

Getting an SSL certificate

You can ask your web hosting provider for assistance with installing the certificate on your account. cPanel hosting usually offers an auto-SSL certificate which is issued by cPanel for your domains and subdomains for a few months and then is renewed. It may be beneficial to purchase a retail SSL certificate for your domain because not all SSL certificates are the same.

SSL certificates are needed for compliance

Many e-commerce providers who provide secure API’s and process payment information securely so you wouldn’t be able to run an e-commerce website without it. And if you are collecting any kind of user data like names, addresses, and phone numbers then you definitely need an SSL certificate. Users would be hesitant of handing any information over on a non-secure website. It’s the strongest reason why you need an SSL certificate.

In fact, if you don’t take precautions to protect users data you can be held liable for security breaches and you could be fined a huge sum of money depending on the size of the breach. Having a paid SSL certificate that is issued by a premium provider they offer insurance if the SSL is ever breached. For example if the SSL connection is decrypted by any means (which is an unlikely scenario) they will pay out a lump sum to cover liability costs such as fines and legal fees.

This might be a reason to choose a premium SSL provider rather than a free provider such as Let’sEncrypt or cPanel SSL certificates. From personal experience from using premium SSL certificates and free certificate providers there are pros and cons but if you’re just running a simple blog and not collecting data or processing private information you could justify just using a free SSL certificate.

If you are running a e-commerce website than a strong reason to get a premium SSL certificate is that your site will become targetted by hackers and known exploits. Hackers would go above and beyond to hack into your website if you become a big enough business to virtually rob of personal information. Most businesses that have serious sized security breaches lost their reputation and trust. Usually, it becomes such a big PR issue for the business that it never goes away.

Submit your site to search engines and how to do it quicker

If you want to submit your website to submit your site to search engines like Google, Bing & Yahoo and you are up for quite a task ahead. You may not know it, but they aren’t the only search engines out on the internet.

There are over 400+ search engines on the internet, and although Google dominates them all, it doesn’t mean users aren’t using other search engines. Search engines are technically scanned by different search engines for links so crawl. What this means is the more search engines your website is on, the better you are going to rank overall on the leading search engines.

An easy way to submit your website to these search engine directories is by purchasing our search booster service that does the heavy lifting for you.

How the traffic booster works to submit your site to search engines

Traffic Booster gives you a powerful 3-step method to achieve better technical optimisation on your site. It uses a complex array of scripts and algorithms to help you achieve better results in over 400 search engines – and it only takes minutes.

Step 1: Search booster checks your site for broken links

You may not know it but broken links that don’t work can actually negatively affect your SEO ranking. Our tool mitigates this problem by alerting you to pages that contains the broken links so that you can update or remove the broken link. This saves you from having to manually go through each page and blog post of your site and check if the other sites you have linked to are still active. This is something that requires to be done on a regular basis and it can take up a lot of time and is a very boring repetitive task.

Step 2: Optimise Your Site

After you have checked for your websites broken links there are some other important factors to consider. Our search booster tool also includes a meta tag generator that gives you the HTML tags to use on your site for your chosen keywords. These meta tags help tell search engines more information about what your website is about and what the content contains for the Google crawlers to sort to rank your website accordingly. Search engines don’t work well when they can’t deliver the right results to searches so Google rewards website owners that take the extra time to index their websites.

You also get detailed reports about how your website SEO is progressing and makes recommendations on what to improve further to increase your ranking.

Here are some of the things that these reports include:

Site Preview

A preview of how your site will look in the search engine’s ranking pages.

Meta Tags Report

A preview of your meta tags and advice on how to optimise them.

Overall Page Report

A report on your page, including number of URL’s, size of the page, and how quickly it loads.

Keyword Density

The words that the search engines find most often on your page. These let it know what the page is about.

Internal Links

A list of all the links on the page that lead to other parts of your site.

External Links

A list of all the links on the page that lead to other sites.

These reports let you know when your SEO strategy is working and what you can change to make your site better.

Step 3: Submit your site to search engines (400+ search engines)

The only thing left to do now is to submit your site to the search engines. Search engines crawl your website automatically but they also count how many times your website is linked elsewhere on the internet to get a rough idea how relevant your website is. So having your website added to 400+ search engines will increase your backlinks and chances of people finding your content.

Use the keywords in the name of the file
As keywords in post URL’s are vital for pages, it is equally true for images.
Do not cram as many in as possible
Do not keyword cram when filling out image alt text. All your captions, alt text, and names of files should be descriptive and to the point, not a massive list of keywords.
